History

1955 : Arçelik established in Sütlüce.

1959 : Production of the first washing machine in Turkey.

1960 : Production of the first refrigerator in Turkey.

1968 : Manufacturing plant moved to Çayırova.

1975 : Eskişehir Refrigeration Plant production starts.

1977 : Ardem Cooking and Heating Appliances and Türk Demir Döküm Plants established. Opening of Eskişehir Compressor Plant.

1979 : Opening of the İzmir Vacuum Cleaner Plant.

1991 : R&D Center set up. Consumer Information Service established.

1993 : Opening of the Ankara Dishwasher Plant.

1996 : Air Conditioner Plant at Çayırova established.

1997 : Arçelik won the KalDer National Quality Award

1998 : Artesis established. The practice of offering three-year guarantees begins. Decision to implement 6 Sigma Methodology.

1999 : Acquired Ardem Cooking and Heating Appliances. Arçelik, Türk Elektrik Endüstrisi A.Ş., Atılım A.Ş. and Gelişim A.Ş. become one legal entity.

2000 : Arçelik-LG Air Conditioning Industry and Trade Inc. started production.

2001 : Arçelik  took over the marketing and sales activities of Beko branded products that had been marketed and sold by Beko Ticaret. The İzmir Vacuum Cleaner Factory and the Topkapı Motor-Pump Factory were merged and relocated to Çerkezköy to improve efficiency.

2002 : Arçelik acquired the German household appliance company Blomberg, the Austrian household appliance company Elektra Bregenz and the Elektra Bregenz and Tirolia brands. It acquired Leisure and Flavel, British household appliance brands. It acquired Arctic, the Romanian household appliance company.
The international marketing company Beko U.K. received the “Supplier of the Year Award”, the most prestigious award in its field.
Beko became the market leader in the U.K. refrigerator market.* The Digital Living Project was promoted for the first time at the Berlin Hometech Fair. The logo was changed. Launch of new logo reflecting the company’s dynamic and innovative structure.

2003 : Smart appliances sales begin. Arçelik was included in the instructors' training book for 6 Sigma. The Banker, a publication of The Financial Times chose Arçelik the Best Turkish Company in 2003.

2004 :  Decision made to invest in Russia. The Eskişehir Refrigerator Plant receives the TPM Excellence Award and the Çayırova Plant receives the TPM Continuous Excellence Award. The British Energy Saving Trust recommends Beko dishwashers for their superior energy performance. The European Energy Commission announces the “Blomberg CT 1300A” refrigerator as the “Most Energy-Efficient Refrigerator” at the Energy+ Competition. The prestigious German consumer magazine Stiftung Warentest lauds Beko dishwashers as among the “Best Buys” in the German market. The Blomberg washing machine receives the “Design Award” at Plus X, the largest technology competition in Germany.

2005: Celebration of Arçelik’s 50th anniversary. The foundations of the Russia production plant were laid. Arctic Chest Freezer production line was launched.
The Company continued to expand its product range with major investments in technology and R&D, and broke new ground by producing the first domestic tumble dryer in Turkey. Arçelik completed Blomberg's product range, a brand which combines advanced technology with German design and has received several awards in the environment, design, efficiency and technology categories.
In the furniture industry, Arstil grew to 80 stores and held its first dealers' meeting.

2006: The Romania Arctic Cooling Plant receives a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence Award.
The Eskisehir Refrigerator Plant receives TPM Continuous Excellence Award.
Arçelik A.Ş. breaks new ground by exporting washing machines and dishwashers from Turkey to China.
In accordance with its strategy to grow in international markets via its branded products, the Company continues to introduce its “Exclusive Beko Shop System” to foreign markets.
193 inventors who designed innovative products for the Company receive awards at the 8th annual “Invention Day”
Built-in ovens and refrigerators of the Austrian household appliances brand Elektra Bregenz win five awards at “Plus X 2006”, one of Europe's most prestigious competitions.
The heat-pump dryer of the celebrated German brand Blomberg is chosen “Best Buy” in the June issue of “Test Achats/Test-Aankoop”, published by the Belgian Consumers Association.
The Company breaks new ground and starts producing Turkey's first side-by-side refrigerator at its Eskişehir Plant.
The Company launches production of its “Express 58 minute, 65˚C”, the quickest-programmed dishwasher, which
simultaneously saves time and provides state-of-the-art washing performance.
The Company becomes the “Patent Champion of Turkey”, winning first prize in the Turkish Patent Institute's first Patent League Awards.
The Company produces the world's quickest washing machine, which is able to wash loads of up to seven kilos of lightly-soiled laundry in only 30 minutes.
Along with its global brand Beko, Arçelik A.Ş. becomes the main sponsor of the Turkish Men's Basketball League.
By increasing its stake from 22.36% to 72.46%, Arçelik becomes the largest shareholder in Beko Elektronik A.Ş.
After laying the foundation in June of 2005, the Company begins operations at its refrigerator and washing machine production facility in Russia.
Arçelik A.Ş. sponsors the world-renowned “The Genius of Leonardo” exhibition at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum in Istanbul.
Following in the steps of its popular Turkish Coffee Machine “Telve”, which received the “iF Design Award”, Arçelik A.Ş. launches the innovative “Mini Telve”, the home version of the same product.

2007:Arçelik A.Ş. is continuously improving its brand-awareness and sales volume in Poland via its global brand Beko.
As the third largest producer of household appliances in Europe, the Company is aiming to increase its market share in Poland by 10% in 2007.
Beko LLC in Russia receives the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Administrative System Certificate.
After beginning its mass production in June of 2006, Beko LLC was recognized for its efficiency by SGS according to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Standards certification.
“The Genius of Leonardo” exhibition, sponsored by Arçelik A.Ş., opens in Ankara.
Hugely popular during its two-month stint in Istanbul, “The Genius of Leonardo” was now being received to wide popular acclaim in the nation's capital.
Arçelik A.Ş. becomes “The Most Recalled Brand” in Turkey.
According to the 13th annual Global Nielsen Brands Report, Arçelik garnered the title of “The Most Recalled Brand” in Turkey over the past ten years.
Beko receives “The Most Trusted Brand” award in Poland.
In the annual Reader's Digest Trusted Brands research, one of the largest and widest-ranging consumer surveys undertaken in Europe, the popular magazine confirmed that Beko brand had once again proven its remarkable success in Poland.
“Active Fresh Blue Light” is launched by Arçelik A.Ş.
As the leading company of the Koç Group, as well as the largest white goods manufacturer in Turkey, Arçelik A.Ş. launched its side-by-side refrigerator featuring Active Fresh Blue Technology at its Eskişehir plant, the world's largest refrigerator-producing factory under one roof.

While Arçelik A.Ş. has increased daily the number of authorized dealers in the global market with half a century of experience; there were further new additions to the “Beko exclusive shops” chain. Arçelik opened its first store in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

A cooperation between giant brands: Vodafone services become available at Arçelik and Beko authorized dealers.
Vodafone Telekomünikasyon A.Ş., the world leader in mobile telecommunications, and Arçelik A.Ş., Turkey's leader in durable consumer goods, broke new ground with their partnership to provide more value to their customers. The new agreement signed between the two companies enables Vodafone's postpaid accounts and virtual prepaid lines to be made available via Arçelik and Beko authorized dealers.

Arçelik A.Ş., which has been operating in China since 2000, decided to speed up its initiatives in this market by increasing the number of sales points in that country to 89. Blomberg washing machines receive high grades for their quality and performance.
In an evaluation of 11 leading international washing machine brands, the September issue of Stiftung Warentest,
a German consumer magazine, awarded Arçelik's Blomberg branded washing machine the high grade of “Good” for its power and water consumption, as well as its overall efficiency, technology, performance and quality design.
Arçelik introduces its “Tech-Touch” dishwasher, the ultimate technology.
Breaking new ground in the white goods industry, Arçelik A.Ş. launched its state-of-the-art “Tech-Touch” dishwasher, allowing the consumer to simply put all the dishes, glassware and cutlery into the machine and press a single button. By technologically measuring the weight and soil level of the dishes, the “Tech-Touch” dishwasher automatically chooses the appropriate detergent and water amounts, thereby maximizing water and power usage with a single touch.

Popular French consumer magazine Que Choisir gives “Best Product” Award to Beko for its new dishwasher.
The November issue of the renowned French consumer magazine Que Choisir selected the Beko “DFN 6831 S” dishwasher as the “Best Product” due to its excellent price-performance ratio. In tests carried out among eleven of the world's leading dishwasher brands, Beko's design ranked second overall.
Arçelik A.Ş., the Koç Group's leading company, receives the prominent “Most Competitive Corporation” award for its success in China.
According to studies conducted in foreign countries by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Koç Group won the coveted “Most Competitive Corporation” award for the durable consumer sector in China, with its leading durable goods company Arçelik A.Ş.

As the Koç Group's leading company in the household appliances sector, Arçelik A.Ş. confirmed its philosophy of garnering success in global markets through its own branded goods by establishing its manufacturing facilities in China, one of the world's most rapidly growing economies, where the Company has been active since 2000.
Arçelik A.Ş. commences the process of acquiring Grundig Multimedia BV by purchasing 50% of Alba's shares.
In line with its international growth strategies in the consumer electronics sector, Beko Elektronik A.Ş. acquired Grundig, one of the best known and most established brands in Europe. Following a joint takeover of Grundig in 2004 with the English Alba Plc, in December of 2007 Beko Elektronik started the process of purchasing all of Alba's 50% stake in the Grundig, thereby making it the sole owner of the company and brand.

2008: Arçelik A.Ş. commenced production in the first clothes dryer establishment in Turkey. Arçelik A.Ş, the Koç Group’s leading company in the durable consumer goods industry, quadrupled its capacity for producing clothes dryers and commenced Turkey’s first establishment for this product.

Beko introduced the first fully compatible interactive hotel television. As the pioneer of innovations not only in Turkey but in the world and as the leading brand in consumer electronics, Beko launched Turkey’s first hotel television fully compatible with interactive systems at the “Anfaş Hotel Equipment Fair,” in Antalya, 17-20 January 2008.

services all over Turkey met in Istanbul, 11-17 February.

With “Divide&Cool (DAC): Dividable Cooling Technology,” the “first product of its type in the world” having a feature that connects four refrigerating cabinets to a single external unit, Arçelik pioneered a new generation in kitchens.

Beko All-Stars, the largest basketball event, brought together the best basketball players and incredibly different shows with audiences at the Abdi İpekçi Arena.

The unique Zero Standby televisions, which do not consume energy while on stand-by, started contributing both to consumers’ budgets and to the Turkish economy and took its place among green products, being sensitive to the environment and using natural resources.

Arçelik A.Ş. attended the “World Sustainable Energy Development” (WSED) conference, regularly organised since 1992, and shared detailed information on the energy performances of products developed by the company’s own technology

In December 2007, Beko Elektronik A.Ş. bought 50% shares in Alba and then changed its trade name to “Grundig Elektronik A.Ş.” after starting the process to become the sole owner of Grundig Multimedia B.V and the Grundig brand.

The directors of Georgetown University’s International Executive MBA program (IEMBA) in executive business management, among the top ten Executive MBA programs in the world, decided to prepare a thesis on “Arçelik’s Strategy for Entering the U.S. White Goods Market.”

Forty-two dealers of Arçelik A.Ş. in Iraq, one of the first markets where the company exported Arçelik branded goods, met in Istanbul. The group comprising 42 Arçelik dealers from various Iraqi cities, including Zaho, Dahuk, Irbil, Mosul, Bagdad, and Basra, visited the Istanbul Çayırova facilities and Eskişehir Refrigerator facilities.

In a contest organised by the Turkish Patent Institute since 2005, Arçelik continued to be well-ahead as the “Patent Champion,” and the company recognized engineers who have made significant achievements in technology production.  At the 10th Invention Day, 185 inventors were given awards for developing innovative products at Arçelik A.Ş.

With its “Inverter-Multi” air conditioners, launched in 2007 to provide maximum savings and heating-cooling performance with minimum energy consumption, Arçelik reinforced its leadership in the market even more.

With Beko, a powerful brand both in Turkey and in foreign markets, and Blomberg, acquired in 2002, Arçelik A.Ş. was included in the TURQUALITY® Support Program.

Beko launched its new LCD television, “Sound Art,” featuring the “Sound Projector.”

Arçelik launched its A-energy class “ArtCool Frame Air Conditioner,” which allows both heating and cooling and is appreciated by consumers not only for its features but also for its decorative quality.

Arçelik A.Ş., one of the leading industrial engine producers in Turkey, participated in the “ENVER Engine Movement,” aiming at the efficient use of energy in the industry.

Arçelik A.Ş. launched another unique innovation in the white goods industry, the “New Black Orbital,” an A++ No-Frost refrigerator with the least energy consumption in its class.

Arçelik A.Ş. published its 2007 Sustainability Report covering the company’s social and environmental activities.

Production Facilities, the council received information from authorised personnel and met with Arçelik’s top management.

To promote the Beko brand and increase its brand awareness in China, Arçelik A.Ş. organised a free washing activity in Shanghai with the motto, “Beko washes Shanghai.”

For “Standing United for Education with Arçelik A.Ş.,” Arçelik’s corporate social responsibility project, students competed in essay, poetry, and painting contests organised with the Ministry of National Education and the General Directorate of Primary Education, focusing on the theme “Let’s Protect our Environment and Natural Resources.”  Students placing in the competition were awarded in a ceremony at the Sütlüce Campus of Arçelik A.Ş.

Beko LLC, an Arçelik A.Ş. washing machine and refrigerator production facility in Russia, participated in a ceremony to celebrate its one millionth product.

As part of the preliminary Sister City protocol between Eskişehir metropolitan municipality and the Chinese city of Changzhou, the Chinese Council visited Arçelik’s Eskişehir Refrigerator Production Facility.

Arçelik A.Ş. launched Omega, its distribution company in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the first “Beko Center” for sales, services, and logistics in Sarajevo.
