In the Turkey programme of the “European Business Awards for the Environment” awards granted by European Commission in 27 EU Member States as well as in Turkey, that is in accession process, to recognize the achievements of the companies leading to the environment-friendly policies and products, were presented to their winners in the ceremony organized in Conrad Hotel by REC Turkey on April 7, 2010.

Arçelik A.Ş. won the first prizes in "Management" category since it is reflecting its essential management understanding based on the environmentally responsive and social responsibility integrated to all of its business processes, and in "Product” category with its “Ekonomist” washing machine that contributes significantly to sustainable development. Furthermore, Arçelik A.Ş. entitled to be one of the three finalists in the “Product" category with its "New Built-in Oven".

Within the framework of the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Turkey Programme”, the “Management" category award is given to the companies having strategic vision and a management system that continuously improve their contributions in sustainable development field; and the "Product” category award is given to the companies that develop a new product or service, ensuring significant contributions to the sustainable development.

By its new vision “Respects the Globe, Respected Globally”, Arçelik A.Ş. highlights the importanceof the environment and utilization of the resources in the most efficient way.

The companies that are elected solely in national level are entitled to participate into the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Europe Programme” that is one of the most prestigious awards of the Europe. With these prizes, Arçelik A.Ş. is among the finalists that will compete in the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Europe Programme” and represents Turkey in “Management” category.

“European Business Awards for the Environment- Europe Programme” is organized in Brussels every two years, within the framework of “Green Week” organized annually by European Commission Directorate General for the Environment, in June since 2004. “European Business Awards for the Environment” is carried out by means of national environment award programmes organized by 27 member states and EU accession countries. The companies that are elected solely in national level by the Jury, entitle to participate into the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Europe Programme” that is one of the most prestigious awards in Europe.

As the winner of two first prizes in the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Turkey Programme”, Arçelik A.Ş.  is among the finalists that will compete in the “European Business Awards for the Environment – Europe Programme” to be  organized in June and will represent Turkey in “Management” category. “European Business Awards for the Environment – Turkey Programme” for which REC Turkey acts as a national secretary is held every two years in İstanbul, since 2005.

Winner of “Product category:  “Ekonomist Washing Machine”

Today, where life standards of the humankind are being threatened by the exhausted natural resources, “Ekonomist" product range developed by the “Sustainable Development” approach of Arçelik is increasing the quality of life by meeting its customer expectations, protecting natural resources with its low energy and water consumption and contributing to the sustainable development by ensuring recovery in high rates.

“Ekonomist series” washing machines that is the first product of a long-term project put forward with the strategy of becoming a world leader in the energy efficiency era, were put into serial production in March 2009 as a result of the project initiated by Arçelik Washing Machine Plant and Arçelik R&D Directorate. It was released in both domestic and foreign markets with 19 different models since it was launched in serial production.

“Ekonomist” product range being the first washing machine that provides 30% more savings than A Energy Class, provide energy saving. With its low water consumption, it provides 3 liters water saving in each washing process. By a recycling rate of 97%, its effects on environment were minimized. Thanks to its advanced motor technology, its 2.5 fold silent than the conventional machines.  It provides wide and flexible program options for various life styles. Its interactive interface and broad front loading door ensure convenient usage.  With its smart safety algorithms ensuring safety operation, it protects both machine and the customer.  By means of its hot water option, it provides additional energy saving opportunity to its users that owns a more efficient heat source than the washing machine itself.

Finalist of “Product” category: “New Built-in Oven"

In “European Business Awards for the Environment – Turkey Programme, “New Built-In Oven” became one of the three finalists in “Product" category. The “New Built-In Oven” is the World’s lowest energy consumption in its class with 30% less energy consumption when compared to A Energy Class, and the World’s lowest noise level in its class with 43 dBA. “New Built-In Oven” that has features such as easy-to-clean oven door & “Anti-finger print” inox coating technologies,which are nano-ceramic coating applications developed by Arçelik, user and environment-friendly electronic control units, large cooking space was released to improve the life quality of the consumers. With its innovative “Surf” cooking technology, it ensures homogenous cooking with more than one tray at the same time.

The “New Built-In Oven” explicitly emphasizes environment-friendly, innovative, customer focused and high quality product according to our vision and brand image. The nominated project produced with sustainable development approach was released both in domestic and international markets.
