With these results and with a satisfactory outcome during the second quarter, Arçelik maintained its profitability above its global rivals in spite of all developments and adverse conditions in the sector.
Due to economical developments the market, compared to the same period of last year, narrowed while Arçelik increased its market share in all significant regions where it conducts business. With the powerful performance it showed in Western European countries, primarily England. Arçelik A.Ş. which is maintaining its market leadership in Turkey has also became one of the companies in the region that gained the quickest increase in its market share. As a result, Arçelik's overall Western European share in turnover reached 33%.
Arçelik also exhibited successful performance in consumer electronics as it did in the white goods sector. Compared to the same period of last year, LCD TV sales in the Turkish market reached 176 thousand units with an overall increase of 47% in the first half of 2009.
The Company strengthened its leadership in the television market by maintaining its leadership in the white goods and electronics sectors.
Among the innovative products the Company offered to the consumer electronics sector are: a LCD television that consumes zero energy in the standby mode, the environmentally-conscious “Eco-panel LCD” TV series that consumes 45% less power, and LCD televisions granted design awards at the world's leading design competitions due to the design and technological superiorities they possess.
In present day, where environmental conditions are changing rapidly and life standards of humanity are being threatened by the exhaustion of natural resources, Arçelik A.Ş. determined its priority as “a production that respects human beings and the environment” by releasing the “World’s Least Energy Consuming Washing Machine” which provides 30% more savings than the A energy class products, and the Arçelik Economist Washing Machine which bears the title “World’s First Fastest Washing Machine” with its “Fast 14 Program”.
